Yahukimo, Olemah.com – Preparations for the launch of the Ngalik Language Bible in Yahukimo Regency, Papua Highlands, have reached 60% and are scheduled to take place on February 7, 2025. The chairman of the launch committee, Rev. Lukas Giban, stated that the committee's readiness has improved significantly following more than a year of hard work.
"We formed the launch committee on November 11, 2023. Throughout 2024, we worked tirelessly to raise support in the form of money, wam (essential goods), and other contributions," Giban said on Thursday (1/16/2025).
Intensive Meetings in Three Locations According to Giban, the committee held 14 meetings in three different locations: Yahukimo, Jayapura, and Wamena. The event's location, initially planned for Silimo, was moved to Yahukimo due to technical considerations.
"We urge all elements of the Ngalik community, including youth leaders, church leaders, intellectuals, and female figures, to take part and help make this event a success," he said.
Expressions of Gratitude and Community Support Acting Secretary of the Launch Committee, Yusus Bayage, expressed gratitude for the progress made, which has reached 60%. "We are grateful to God for His guidance as we approach the launch day. We also encourage all members of the Ngalik community from 8 to 9 districts to participate actively," he said.
Bayage further explained that the Ngalik Language Bible is the result of diligent efforts by native Ngalik translators who devoted time and prayers to translate it from Indonesian. Once officially launched, the Bible will be distributed to churches within the Ngalik community.
Final Preparations by the Committee The committee is working to complete the remaining 40% of preparations, including assigning responsibilities to various sections. The event section focuses on rehearsals, the equipment section ensures the venue's facilities are ready, and the secretariat is finalizing documents and administrative tasks.
"We express our gratitude to all parties who have contributed through donations of money, wam, and labor. The participation of three church denominations—KINGMI, GKII, and GBI—has been crucial to the success of this event," Bayage added.
The launch of the Ngalik Language Bible is expected to be a historic moment for the Ngalik community, strengthening faith and supporting services in churches across the region. All parties are encouraged to attend and contribute to this highly anticipated event.
